Casting Session
I usually reccommend for most expecting mothers to be between 32-38 weeks when having their belly cast. The actual casting of your belly is done in Sarah's art studio which is a comfortable, clean, and warm environment. The casting session takes about forty-five minutes - one hour. The material used to cast your belly is plaster gauze. Once the material dries it slowly pulls away from your skin.
Pricing
When casting your belly from my art studio the charge is a $100.00 deposit to cast your belly. This deposit goes toward
the final price of your belly. Finished Belly Art pricing starts at $300.00. Once a design/concept is chosen,
an exact price is quoted.
Design Process
The expecting mother and I usually meet a few minutes before the casting session to talk about the design of the belly. Some mothers get ideas from finished bellies on the website, while others may get inspiration from baby bedding, a favorite children's book, or general colors of the room it will be hanging in. The possibilities for the design of your belly could actually be endless. Some of the popular finishing techniques are: paper or fabric collage, patterns, textures, mosaic, and painting. Painted designs may include surrealism, and imagery, as well as abstract and whimsical designs.
